Books by Thānissaro Bhikkhu

We have just received a shipment of books with English translations of Ṭhānissaro Bhikkhu, abbot of Monasterio Metta Forest, which generously makes various Buddhist texts available to interested parties free of charge.

This time we are dealing with the two volumes that comprise the Buddhist Monastic Code (Vinaya) the Itivuttaka (collection of 120 short Suttas) and the complete version of the Sutta Nipāta: a group of 72 Suttas (discourses given by the Buddha) that include some of the best known and most esteemed in the Canon, such as the discourse on Loving Kindness (Karaṇīya-Mettā Sutta), the discourse on Treasures (Ratana Sutta), and the Discourse on Protection (Maṅgala Sutta).

Translations of the Ven. Ṭhānissaro are preceded by excellent introductions that provide historical context, clarify doubts regarding interpretations, and address certain terminological issues. In addition, various notes are included that refer to other thematically related Suttas.

Que todos los seres vivos, sin excepción,
sean débiles o fuertes,
altos o bajitos,
grandes, medianos o pequeños,

vistos o no vistos,
vivan lejos o bien cerca,
nacidos o todavía por venir,
que sean felices todos ellos.

Que nadie, en lugar alguno,
engañe o menosprecie a otra persona,
ni le desee el sufrimiento
debido a la ira o al rechazo.»

Así como una madre protegería con su vida
a su hijo único,
cultiva hacia todos los demás
un corazón ilimitado.
